  • Furniture Collection

Comprising over 2 300 pieces, the furniture collection of the Peleș National Museum covers large areas of the architectural ensemble built in Sinaia by King Carol I, between 1873-1914.

King Carol was known for his passion as a builder and for his love of art objects. During the whole period of setting up the Sinaia residence King Carol I showed a special interest in the decoration and furnishing of the castle's rooms. He took great delight in sorting out the details, constantly thinking of improvements.

To carry out his project the sovereign gathered a rich collection of furniture at Peleș Castle, with pieces from the 16th - 20th centuries. From the very first fittings, for the decoration or for furnishing of the beautiful rooms, great master cabinetmakers - Austrian and German, in particular - were called upon, such as Martin Stӧhr, Bernhard Ludwig-father and son from Vienna, Julius Daniel Heymann from Hamburg, August Bembé and Anton Pӧssenbacher from Munich.
